Provincial Emergency Care LPN Integrated Practice (ECLIP)
The BC Provincial Emergency Care LPN Integrated Practice (ECLIP), led by Emergency Care BC (ECBC), provides a consistent and structured approach to orienting Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in emergency departments across the province. As the first provincial emergency department LPN program in BC, ECLIP addresses variations in orientation practices and scope utilization across sites and health authorities. By establishing a provincial framework, ECLIP promotes safe practice, reduces inconsistencies, and strengthens LPN transition into emergency care roles. The program aligns with the priorities of the BC Ministry of Health, the BC Health Human Resources Strategy, and the Emergency Care BC Strategic Plan. Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility, and Anti-Racism (CSHAR) principles are integrated to support equitable and culturally responsive care.
The framework aims to:
- Standardize ED orientation and competency assessment across BC
- Clarify LPN responsibilities and optimize scope of practice
- Advance patient safety, equity, and quality outcomes
- Foster professional development and continuous learning
Together, these components guide orientation, competency assessment, training, and mentorship, ensuring LPNs are equipped and supported to deliver safe, equitable, high-quality emergency care.
