16th Annual UBC DEM Research Day

 

Wednesday, April 9, 2025, 9 am – 4 pm

BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute

This event will be held in person. A Zoom option will be available.

The UBC Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) is pleased to announce the 16th annual Research Day! We are excited to welcome audience members and presenters to join us at the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (Chan Centre Lecture Theatre & Chieng Family Atrium) for a full day of podium presentations on April 9th.

The event will include presentations by DEM or Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) faculty and trainees on completed or planned research in emergency medicine. In addition, we are honoured to be joined by visiting professor Dr. Kerstin de Wit for a plenary presentation.

 

Call for Abstracts

 

Please review the abstract guidelines here and submit your abstract via Qualtrics survey by Monday, February 24, 2025. Notification of selected presenters will be made within two weeks of this date.

Presentations for research projects will be 5 minutes. Presentations for research programs will be 10 minutes.

 

Riyad Abu-Laban Resident Abstract Awards

 

Three prizes will be awarded to the highest ranked resident abstracts: 1st prize of $500 and three runner-up prizes of $250 each.

 

Visiting Professor, Dr. Kerstin de Wit

 

Kerstin de Withholds a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Emergency Venous Thromboembolism and is a Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Queen’s University. She trained in internal medicine, emergency medicine and research in the UK. She completed a Thrombosis Fellowship in Ottawa in 2013. Since then, she has worked in both emergency medicine and thrombosis. She leads a research program which focuses on the diagnosis of bleeding and clotting disorders in the emergency department, and is funded by CIHR.
