Provincial Emergency Care LPN Integrated Practice (ECLIP)
introduction
Led by Emergency Care BC, the ECLIP program provides a consistent, province-wide approach to educating and integrating Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) in emergency care to support patients and care teams. As BC’s first provincial LPN program focused on emergency care, ECLIP addresses long-standing differences in education, training, and scope of practice across health authorities. The program establishes a clear, structured framework that supports safe practice, strengthens LPN transition into emergency care roles, and promotes understanding of the valuable contributions LPNs bring to interdisciplinary teams.
ECLIP foundations are built on Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility, and Anti-Racism principles to promote equitable, culturally responsive care for patients, families, and communities.
Program Goals
ECLIP is designed to:
- Standardize LPN emergency care practice across BC
- Clarify LPN roles and support optimization of skills and knowledge
- Support patient safety, equity, and quality of care
- Support professional growth through continuous learning and mentorship
- Promote understanding of the skills, knowledge, and value LPNs contribute to emergency care teams
