A new hybrid virtual care pilot is helping Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake stay open despite physician shortages, thanks to a partnership between Interior Health and Provincial Virtual Health. Using secure video and phone technology, remote physicians collaborate with on-site nurses to assess and treat patients, ensuring continued care within the community. Since its launch in November 2024, the hospital has had no inpatient service disruptions. 

This model has been praised by both staff and patients for keeping families together and avoiding transfers to distant facilities. With early success, similar pilots are now underway in Northern Health, and a provincial framework is being developed to expand this innovative solution.
