BC Guidelines and Protocols Advisory Committee (GPAC) invites health system partner who may be interested in or impacted by the guideline recommendations to review the latest draft BC Guideline: Stroke and Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) Part One: Diagnosis and Acute Management.  Your feedback will be invaluable in shaping guideline content, format, and decreasing burdens for busy BC health care practitioners.

Some examples of NEW recommendations for this topic include:

  • Imaging: Perform brain parenchymal (non-contrast CT) and neurovascular (CTA) imaging in patients with suspected stroke/TIA and as soon as possible if within 48 h of symptom onset, even if symptoms have resolved.
  • Symptom onset 2 d – 2 wks: Contact stroke specialist to determine whether to direct patient to ED for urgent imaging or initiate urgent referral to stroke prevention clinic.
  • Risk Assessment: Assess 7-day stroke risk using the Canadian TIA Score.
