I have never seen an opening pressure done in the sitting position. I expect it would change the reading as you state. I have seen people get the patient to lie down from the sitting position and then measure it in the lateral position for this exact reason but I have never personally done this. Having said that, I rarely do opening pressures - would consider if worried about cryptococcal meningitis (very high OP), normal pressure hydrocephalus or benign intracranial hypertension. Always wondered what it's real value was.

In this video the opening pressure is measured with the patient in the upright position. I have been taught it will measure artificially high and opening pressure should only be measured in the lateral recumbent position. Is this no longer being done?
